International musicology colloquium "Shakuhachi: From Zen to Avant-Garde" will be held during the ESF 2010. It will offer talks on different musical and cultural aspects of the shakuhachi. The conference is organised by Institute of Musicology of Charles' University Prague and Institute of Music Theory of HAMU. Find more info here.

One of the greatest masters of the twentieth century and a man who greatly contributed to the spreading of the shakuhachi all over the world died today.

On February 11, Akikazu Nakamura will perform in Polish National Opera. Nakamura is renowned for unusual breath techniques and specific colour of tone. Concert is co-produced by Japanese Embassy in Poland. More info here.
